Song of the Week: The Giver by Duke Dumont (Wave Racer Remix)

Wave Racer Duke Dumont

After almost a year of near silence, Wave Racer has gone ahead and transformed Duke Dumont’s track ‘The Giver’ into an explosion of sparkling, dancing, pulsating musical glory. The thing about Wave Racer tracks is that they transport you into a video game-like world where you feel like each dance move you do takes you further and further through the levels until you’ve reached this incredible sense of achievement. As with most of his music, it could easily be mistaken for a song in the soundtrack of a Nintendo game.

This take on Duke Dumont’s track is just restrained enough to be easy listening, yet bouncy enough that it could light up a dance floor. Perfect way to finish the weekend? Yep:

Producer Spotlight: Maybe by Carmada (Empia Remix)

Empia-800x549

If you already love fellow Aussie producers collabing with each other (eg. SAFIA and Peking Duk, Yahtzel and LDRU), then chances are you will love Sydney-sider Empia‘s remix of “Maybe” by Carmada (Yahtzel and LDRU‘s collab). The original track is already a mighty fine tune, but Empia, AKA Carl Elliott, removes some of the intensity in the drops and instead builds up a future bass/trap feel in his remix. It is super danceable, so it gets an instant thumbs up from us:

Head on over to Empia’s soundcloud for a lot more great remixes and some original tracks. He’s even playing at Groovin The Moo in Maitland, so you can catch his no-doubt bouncin’ live set.

Song of the Week: Lay Me Down by Sam Smith (Flume Remix)

Flume

In case you missed it, yesterday the internet went crazy because Harley Streten AKA Flume came out of hiding and released a teaser remix (Sam Smith‘s track, “Lay Me Down”), leading up to his upcoming album which is coming to your ears real soon.

Though Flume has experimented with remixing some different genres of music (from indie rock like Arcade Fire to pop electronic like Lorde), typically there are some markers that give him a signature sound, such as his distinctive drops.

Yet more recently he’s started to develop and mature his sound and this can really be seen in this track – he hints at drops, draws them out and uses more restraint in this remix. Have a listen:

Needless to say, we are waiting with bated breath for his second album which is bound to be jam-packed full of bangers. No pressure though, Harley.
